One Of Two Suspicious Fires Deemed Arson
To date, officials have determined that at least one of two suspicious fires battled in the wee hours Sunday and Monday, was an instance of arson.
Fire Investigator Shayne Adams of the Lawrenceburg Fire Department said Monday that a fire reported at 117 West Taylor Street around 1:30 Sunday morning was, in fact, intentionally set.
Emergency personnel had been dispatched on a call of a possible house fire at 1:34 a.m. When they arrived on the scene, Lawrenceburg Police Officers reported finding smoke.
Adams stated Monday that the house was vacant and undergoing renovations at the time the fire was set. Firefighters arrived on the scene early, allowing them to extinguish the flames and confine damages to a bathroom.
Around 3:30 Monday morning, units were dispatched to an eerily similar fire at 514 First Street. There, Adams said, damages were much more extensive.
The second home was also vacant and undergoing renovations. Adams said that they were only able to keep fire crews inside a short period of time before they had to pull out. The roof then collapsed.
Investigators are expected to be on-site Tuesday morning, conducting a more thorough investigation into the cause of the First Street blaze.
